Hosted License Servers

Hosted license servers are installed on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) virtual machines. EC2 virtual machines created on October 7, 2026 and earlier run Amazon Linux 2, and those created on October 8, 2026 and later run Amazon Linux 2023. A hosted license server is installed on its own EC2 instance, and the EC2 instance is assigned to a security group unique to your organization.

HTTPS communication to the EC2 instance is enabled using industry-standard Let’s Encrypt Transport Layer Security (TLS) certificates managed using the Electronic Frontier Foundation’s Certbot.

The log file of a hosted license server is configured to contain only errors (see Configuring Contract Tools License Server to learn about configuring Contract Tools License Server); no Contract Tools usage information is logged when you use a hosted license server.
